Bathroom Design Budgets

The first step towards feasible bathroom design

Before you can really begin to hone your bathroom design, you’ll have to hone your budget. Figuring out what your bathroom budget will be may be easy for those who are independently wealthy or have recently won the lottery, but for most of us, it takes a great deal of planning, saving and maybe even a little sweating.

Planning

Your bathroom design budget depends on how much money you can spare, how much time you have and how much debt you’re willing to incur. Most of us immediately think not much, not much and not much. But the truth is, you’re going to have to make a concession in one of these areas or another before your bathroom can be brightened. A little advanced planning can eliminate an aftermath of debt.

Prioritizing Needs and Desires

The budget you can muster will determine the extent to which you can complete the project you have in mind. We’ve all seen the shows that can produce a designer-quality makeover on a shoestring budget, but can we really do such work on our own? If your heart is set on buying a new claw-footed bathtub, you may have to concede on other features of your dream bathroom in order to stay on budget. Only you can decide what your design priorities are, but there are some guidelines that can help.

Readjusting Your Budget

It’s not just on Bob Vila’s shows that unexpected things crop up. When you’re talking about a redesign, anything can happen. When the walls open up to reveal electrical wiring and plumbing, a whole host of costly issues that you hadn’t counted on may arise, and your wallet has to be ready. New design has to take a back seat to safety guidelines and building codes, so your project budget may have to undergo a redesign of its own. Readjusting your budget can be a little disheartening, but evaluating as you go will save you even more disheartening debt surprises in the end.

Budgeted Dreaming

Dreaming of your ideal bathroom design doesn’t have to be depressing because you’re working on a budget. In fact, it may mean that you can get more creative. Dreams don’t cost a thing, and making them a reality can cost less than you expect. As long as you know some parts of your design dream may need to be amended, dreaming will never hurt you. You may be surprised at what you can do.
